The project THERRA unites communities at the 3rd Skradin Risotto and Lifestyle Festival
Skradin, Croatia — September 12 and 13, 2026
The second event of the project THERRA —“Culinary Solidarity Exchange in Skradin” — brought together community members and stakeholders of all ages from the four partner countries forming the project’s consortium for a two-day celebration of cultural heritage, active citizenship, and intergenerational dialogue. Held within the vibrant framework of the 3rd Skradin Risotto and Lifestyle Festival, the initiative reached its goal of showing how shared gastronomic traditions can build bridges across European borders.
On Saturday, September 12th, delegates gathered for the international panel discussion “Culinary Traditions in Italy, Hungary, Croatia, and Lithuania,” hosted as part of the broader conference “Enogastronomic Events as Drivers of Rural Development – Connecting Agriculture and Sustainable Tourism through CAP Instruments.”
Panelists addressed key questions surrounding European identity and cultural preservation:
- Representative dishes: identifying dishes that embody national and local identities.
- Heritage at risk: safeguarding traditional recipes and methods threatened by modern lifestyles and globalization.
- Shared European identity: exploring how culinary customs foster solidarity, intergenerational knowledge transfer, and civic involvement among citizens.
Moreover, international delegations had the opportunity to take the live cooking stations alongside local chefs. Visiting teams from Italy, Hungary, and Lithuania prepared their own regional risotto variations alongside the iconic, slow-cooked Skradin Risotto. The live cooking sessions provided a welcoming, informal environment where elderly community members and young participants cooked together, sharing personal stories of friendship and regional roots. The festival continued on Sunday, September 13th, with showcase sessions dedicated to traditional desserts, featuring the famous Skradin cake.
The core concrete result of this intergenerational culinary exchange is the creation of the digital “Solidarity Recipe Book.” The document is about shared traditional recipes, personal narratives, and reflections on local identity gathered in Skradin, extending the project’s impact across all participating communities.
Next Appointment: Keszthely, Hungary
The THERRA journey continues! The next official meeting will take place in Keszthely, Hungary, from May 7th to May 9th, 2026, where partner delegations will gather to advance project objectives and deepen international cooperation around lake communities.
