Tamsweg Event 2013

Protect the lake, preserve the environment! New ideas for a better environmental protection

The theme of the protection of lake districts and new ideas on compatible development were the focus of the event promoted within the nEUlakes project in Tamsweg, a town near Salzburg in Austria which is twinned with Iseo.

During a conference, Dott. Paolo Bonardi, an expert in European policies, illustrated to those present the Europe for Citizens programme, within which twinning and partnering are provided for and encouraged.

In the debate which followed, presided over by the Mayors of Tamsweg, Georg Gappmeyer, and of Iseo, Riccardo Venchiarutti, councillors, public administrators, representatives of associations and local organisations joined in, expressing their desire to go ahead with the experience already under way and to involve other European towns as well.

Professor Massimiliano Mandarini from the Milan Polytechnic dedicated a session to the theme of sustainable planning on lake waterfronts; with the aid of slides and graphs he demonstrated the best practices on a global level which focussed on innovative planning developed by students at an international masterclass on architecture.

Delegates dedicated a morning to the inspection of the protected natural area of PreberSee, a mountain lake which dominates the residential area of Tamsweg, during which the features of its flora and fauna and the policies initiated by the Tamsweg Council and by territorial groups for the protection and conservation of the lake and surrounding areas, were illustrated.

A concert by the jazz pianist Enrico Intra hosted by a local cultural association and a visit to the Museum of Lungau traditions rounded off the four-day event.
